Egypt earn first points after 3:0 victory over Russia. Both teams had still zero points on their account and really needed to win to avoid the last rank in Pool A. Russia had many opportunities in the first half but all of them failed. Either they missed the goal or Egypt´s goalkeeper Ahmed Sayed saved. More parts of the first half belonged to the Russian team while Egypt just reached the opponent circle once. But their first serious attack was successful. Eslam Basha was the quickest who found the ball after confusion in the circle. He shot immediately and made the 1:0-lead.
The second half was underway for just five minutes when Nikolay Yankun deflected the ball which went over the crossbar and missed the equalizer. But Russia fought, won another penalty corner which failed as well. Now Russia seemed a bit frustrated and Egypt had two more opportunities by Mahmoud Hamde and Ahmed Abdelhakeem. When two Russians and one Egyptian were send off with yellow cards Ahmed Shestawy used the space on the field and scored the 2:0. After a third Russian had to go to the sin-bin, Egypt had power play and made the 3:0
Finally Russia had more opportunities, but struggled with the efficiency of converting opportunities and their discipline. Egypt defend the 4th rank in Pool A while Russia stay 5th.
Russia v Egypt 0:3 (0:1)
0:1 Eslam BASHA (FG), 0:2 Ahmed SHESTAWY (FG), 0:3 Mahmoud HAMDE (FG)
