Russia lead Pool I after they defeated Chile 4:2
Russia celebrated their first victory in the tournament. Today they defeated Chile 4:2. Both of them have three points now but Russia lead the table due to the better goal difference. The game was important for both teams because both of them needed to win and especially Chile could make sure through another victory that they play for the final ranking 17 to 18.
Chile took the lead already in minute 5 when Russia’s defence was still a bit disorganised. But from now on the Russian show started. Alexey Mayorov converted a penalty corner and the score was equal again. Around 90 seconds later Nikolay Komarov brought Russia the lead. He won possession in the circle and shot immediately. Russia played with a lot of discipline and kept Chile away from their circle. They could even increase their lead when Pavel Golubev scored at the beginning of the second half. From now on Chile fought, gained the 3:2 through Ricardo Achondo and went for the equalizer. But Russia played clever and were able to make the 4:2 just before the final whistle, Mayorov succeeded again.
