In today’s clash Spain and Korea battled for the ranks 7 to 8 which Korea won with a goal two minutes before the final whistle. Both teams gave their second goalkeepers an experience, Spain’s Borja Zumalacarregui played the whole game while Korea’s Woo Hyun Kang was substituted at halftime for Jae Hyeon Kim. The European champion had the better start leading 2:0 after only ten minutes. Alex Casasayas and Javier Garcia-Chicote were successful.
After these two goals the match got a little bit quiet but Korea also became more and more active. They gained a couple of opportunities and penalty corners but were not able close the gap. Spain even extended their lead through a counter attack after a penalty corner. Diego Arana deflected a team-mate’s shot. This time Korea answered immediately in the next situation. Moon Kweon Kang scored out of crowded circle in front of the Spanish goal.
The beginning of the second half belonged to Spain. It was only Korea’s keeper Kim who saved one Spanish shot after another. Korea was able to enter the Spanish circle the first time in minute 48 again. Just one minute later Korea scored the 3:2 when team-captain Dong Hyun Lee converted the second attempt. After their second goal Korea kept the pressure up. But Spain who played again without Olympic Silver medal winner Roc Oliva was defending well to the 69th minute. Korea converted a penalty corner to the game winning goal scored by Byung Jin Jeon.
